John Reay self-portrait and saxaphone

John Reay was an excellent artist who lived for many years in Lowestoft, recording its life and landscapes. Visitors to the exhibition at Another Angle Studios on Battery Green Road will spot many local places, especially on the seafront. He worked mostly in pastels, screenprints and oils.

Dragon

Local designer, Joe Thompson, gave this games room an oriental look using a projector and a steady hand.

Having chosen the design, he then projected a negative image (top tip: so you don't draw round shadows!) onto the wall. A steady hand then drew around the outline (top to bottom to avoid smudging).

Once done it is then a matter of filling in with paint - Job done! Time taken 20 hours and 30 cups of tea

An excellent night out, for its time the film even had some special effects! Stephen’s live soundtrack added to the mood. The headphones provided gave an immersive experience and the film story kept us on the edge of our deckchair (no spoilers!)

I would encourage everyone to check out the next Screen on the sands.

For this unique beach cinema experience on the eve of 2022’s Festival, pianist Stephen Horne provides a live, improvised soundtrack to the 1926 silent masterpiece, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans.
